Home improvement & renovation

Home improvement website design examples

Three designs you can browse. One live site we built. Pick one and we start there.

What makes a good home improvement website?

Real finished projects photographed properly, an honest price range, and the process written out step by step. Homeowners spend months on a renovation decision and what they are really assessing is whether you will finish the job, so proof and process matter more than service lists.

Home improvement is a slow, expensive, nervous purchase. Someone planning a kitchen or an extension is spending months and five figures, and most of that time is spent deciding whether they trust you. A website that only lists services is answering a question nobody asked.

What usually goes wrong

No finished work to look at

This is the one sector where photographs genuinely are the sales pitch.

No sense of what anything costs

People are not asking for a fixed quote. They are asking whether they can afford to start the conversation.

Nothing about how the job runs

The fear is not the price. It is a half-finished kitchen and a builder who stops answering.

Enquiries arrive with no detail

A name and "interested in an extension" is a phone call you have to make to learn anything.

The brief

What it has to do

Real projects, properly photographed

Before and after, with the brief and what it involved. Never stock, never someone else's work.

A price range you will stand behind

Even a from-figure per project type stops the wrong enquiries and warms up the right ones.

The process, step by step

Survey, design, quote, build, sign-off. Removing the unknown is most of the sale.

Proof you will still be here

Insurance, guarantees, trade memberships, and real reviews you actually earned.

An enquiry that asks the useful questions

Project type, rough budget, timescale. It makes the first call a conversation instead of an interview.

Pages for each type of work

Kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and renovations are four different searches and four different buyers.

renomate.co.uk Live
Renomate website, designed and built by HDC Consultancy

Renomate

The other side of the home improvement market. Renomate matches homeowners planning kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and full renovations with local trades, free to the homeowner, so the whole job is qualifying an enquiry properly before it reaches anyone.

  • Homeowner to trade matching
  • Enquiry qualified before routing
  • Free at the point of use

Common questions

What should a home improvement website include?

Real finished projects photographed properly, an honest indication of cost, the process explained step by step, and an enquiry form that asks about project type, budget and timescale. Homeowners spend months on this decision and the fear is rarely the price. It is being left with an unfinished house and an unreachable builder, so the site's main job is removing that fear.

Should a renovation company publish prices?

A range, yes. Nobody expects a fixed figure for an extension from a web page, but a from-price per project type tells someone whether they are in the right place at all. Without it you spend your evenings quoting jobs that were never going to happen, and the people who could afford you never find that out.

How many project photos do I need?

Fewer than you think, better than you have. Six projects shot properly beat forty phone snaps. Each one wants a before, an after, a line on what the brief was and what it involved. They must be your own work: using someone else's portfolio in a trade this local gets found out, and it ends the business rather than the enquiry.

How do home improvement companies get found on Google?

A page for each type of work crossed with the areas you genuinely cover. "Kitchen fitters in Shrewsbury" is the search that books; "home improvements" is the search that does not. Your Google Business Profile and real reviews carry more weight here than almost any other sector.

What is the difference between a builder's site and a matching service?

A builder is selling their own work and leans on portfolio and trust. A matching service like Renomate is selling a shortlist, so its job is qualifying the enquiry hard enough that the trades on the other end get something worth having. Same market, completely different site.

How do I stop getting time-wasting enquiries?

Ask better questions earlier. Project type, rough budget band and timescale on the form itself will remove most of them, and the ones that remain arrive with enough detail that the first call is a conversation rather than an interview.
